Wars played a huge role in the development of the modern Middle East. The Holocaust during WWII, which eventually caused Zionism which led to the Arab-Israeli conflict. The Persian Gulf War (left) which caused the United Nation's embargo on Iraq. The reason for this war was Suddam Hussen wanted control of Kuwait's oil supply, so Iraq invaded Kuwait. And we can't forget the Iraq war (left as well) in which Suddam Hussein was eventually tried and killed. During this war, the USA feared Iraq could be developing nuclear weapons, so we confronted them and fought with Britain from 2003 to now. All of these wars, and many more, have contributed to the development of the Middle East.

Another contributing factor to the development of the Middle East is the Arab-Israeli conflict, as mentioned above. As you can see, in the year 1947, Palestine had dominated Israel by alot. The plan the United Nations had devised created a somewhat equal land division. After this plan was introduced, it was accepted by Israel, but denied by Palestine. Two years later, Israel started to fight back, diminishing the size of Palestine greatly. 18 years later, Palestine was as small as ever. Now, in 2016 you can really see the difference. Well, it sure looks like Palestine should have agreed with the UN's plan, doesn't it?
